ACLU Goes After High School Graduates

“Threatened by a recent graduation speech delivered by Florida valedictorian Shannon Spaulding, the ACLU is now increasing pressure on school boards to censure free speech at graduation ceremonies.  It all began with a Florida public school valedictorian who rocked the boat by exercising her free speech rights.  Shannon Spaulding’s speech, similar to that of a Texas valedictorian defended by Free Market’s legal division in a past case, embodied the high-schooler’s view on the world and shared the Gospel.  The speech was not reviewed or endorsed by the school.  The ACLU is now demanding that the Duval County School Board change its graduation policy to prevent religious expression at ceremonies in the future.  Advocating for censorship and religious discrimination is disgraceful for any group that claims to be for “civil liberties.”
