Evangelical Theologian: Bottom Line is Mormons are not Christians

From Michelle Vu and Christian Post.

“Mormons believe in a false gospel and are not Christians, concluded one of the nation’s preeminent evangelicals in what appeared to be the close of an online debate over Mormonism.

“Here is the bottom line. As an Evangelical Christian – a Christian who holds to the ‘traditional Christian orthodoxy’ of the Church – I do not believe that Mormonism leads to salvation,” wrote Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, on Wednesday evening.

“To the contrary, I believe that it is a false gospel that, however sincere and kind its adherents may be, leads to eternal death rather than to eternal life,” he stated.

Mohler’s response is part of an ongoing “blog dialogue” sponsored by the Web site Beliefnet.com. Since June 28, the evangelical scholar and prominent Mormon science-fiction writer Orson Scott Card have been debating whether Mormons can be considered Christians.”

One Response to Evangelical Theologian: Bottom Line is Mormons are not Christians

  1. cherie says:

I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and know for myself by the power of the Holy Ghost that is true and what it claims. I have prayed and received, truly received an answer from Heaven. God does speak through the Holy Ghost and we can know for ourselves the truth! I know that some of the teachings and doctrines may be meat for those who barely understand the milk, which is why people attack it so “unrighteously”. We believe in Christ we know who He is and we know He is the literal Son of God the Father! I know that we must receive that confirmation for ourselves, where the Holy Ghost reveals to us what truth really is. How silly and selfish to claim Christianity as your own. We should be child-like not childish.
I do believe however that many So-Called Christians are not Christians at all because they do not know the true God or the Christ they so seemingly worship. I see a lot of lip-service, and shouts of praises and amens with a lot of bible-bashing and pride. It is not fair to discredit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and separate it from “Christianity”, when the world needs more who believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world to fight against the forces of evil who would teach otherwise.
It is easy to make something a lie, to twist or distort, but it is much harder to find the truth of something, which is why one must truly know that God will answer if we ask the right questions in complete humility and faith. It is hard to believe that there are modern-day Prophets and that God continues to speak and give revelation. But Why? Is it because of pride, deceit, sin? Why don’t people ask God for themselves? Where did Dr. Mohler get his conclusion? Does he have enough faith in God to ask and wait for the answer?
It is important to know who our enemies are, but it is not righteous nor fair nor smart to make enemies of our friends. The first “Christians” were called saints in the Bible. We as Latter-Day Saints, those who live their faith and follow the commandments are Christians in the very perfect sense. We hold it dear to our heart, we have none other before us but our Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ, it is who we are and it is what we live, to serve and follow God and to serve our fellowmen, with love and charity.
Thank you for fighting for God, family and country. But please be fair and judge righteously for the sake of truly being Christian.
